The Surah takes its name from verse 224 in which the word Ash-Shu\`araa' occurs.

تِلْكَ These

ءَايَٰتُ (are the) Verses

ٱلْكِتَٰبِ (of) the Book

ٱلْمُبِينِ clear.

لَعَلَّكَ Perhaps you

بَٰخِعٌ (would) kill

نَّفْسَكَ yourself

أَلَّا that not

يَكُونُوا۟ they become

مُؤْمِنِينَ believers.

إِن If

نَّشَأْ We will,

نُنَزِّلْ We can send down

عَلَيْهِم to them

مِّنَ from

ٱلسَّمَآءِ the sky

ءَايَةً a Sign

فَظَلَّتْ so would bend

أَعْنَٰقُهُمْ their necks

لَهَا to it

خَٰضِعِينَ (in) humility.

يَأْتِيهِم come to them

مِّن any

ذِكْرٍ reminder

مِّنَ from

ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ the Most Gracious

مُحْدَثٍ new,

إِلَّا but

كَانُوا۟ they

عَنْهُ from it

مُعْرِضِينَ turn away.
