Luqman (Luqman)

The Surah has been named Luqman after Luqman the Sage, whose admonitions to his son have been related in vv. 12-19 of this Surah.

A perusal of the subject matter shows that it was sent down in the period when persecution to suppress and thwart the invitation to Islam had begun and every sort of machination had started being employed for the purpose. This is borne out by vv. 14-...

الٓمٓ Alif Lam Meem.

تِلْكَ These

ءَايَٰتُ (are) Verses

ٱلْكِتَٰبِ (of) the Book

ٱلْحَكِيمِ the Wise,

هُدًى A guidance

وَرَحْمَةً and a mercy

لِّلْمُحْسِنِينَ for the good-doers,

Luqman

Playing

ٱلَّذِينَ Those who

يُقِيمُونَ establish

ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ the prayer

وَيُؤْتُونَ and give

ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ zakah

وَهُم and they,

بِٱلْءَاخِرَةِ in the Hereafter,

هُمْ [they]

يُوقِنُونَ believe firmly.

أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ Those

عَلَىٰ (are) on

هُدًى guidance

مِّن from

رَّبِّهِمْ their Lord,

وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ and those

هُمُ [they]

ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ (are) the successful.
