Al-Muzzammil (The Enshrouded One)

The Surah has been so designated after the word al-muzzammil occurring in the very first verse. This is only a name and not a title of its subject matter.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا O you

ٱلْمُزَّمِّلُ who wraps himself!

قُمِ Stand

ٱلَّيْلَ (in) the night,

إِلَّا except

قَلِيلًا a little,

نِّصْفَهُۥٓ Half of it,

أَوِ or

ٱنقُصْ lessen

مِنْهُ from it

قَلِيلًا a little,

وَرَتِّلِ and recite

ٱلْقُرْءَانَ the Quran

تَرْتِيلًا (with) measured rhythmic recitation.
